But either way! Tonight or tomorrow, I don't care. I'm just glad they're finally showing good movies this weekend. These past few weeks all they've shown are stupid kid movies. But this weekend they're showing Halloween 2 and Inglourious Basterds. I've been wanting to see Inglourious Basterds for a while now!
Anyways, the M-F Drive-In has been a big part of my life. Ever since I was a little girl I remember waiting all year for summer to come so the drive-in could open. It was a great treat. Getting in the car with my family, buying snacks at the snack bar, standing in the line for the bathroom, and snuggling with our blankets as we stared at the giant screen. I remember when my vision started messing up and had to wear glasses, I'd always make sure I had them with me when we went. Otherwise, I would have to sit and sulk the whole time because it was blurry.
So many memories, but also, so many things have changed. I remember the playground set they had way in the front. My brother and I would always go play there before the movie started. Also, everywhere within the drive-in, they used to have these ugly gray poles with speakers attached. We would have to park the car next to them so we could hear the movies. Oh, and the prices have also changed! I remember when the fee to enter was $2 per car!! TWO DOLLARS! It gradually went up during the years. A couple of years ago I remember it being $10 per car. And just recently it has changed to $6 per adult, $1 for kids 5-11, and under 5 is free.
And then we had that huge wind storm. If I remember correctly, it was like the beginning of 2008 when it happened. It was such a strong storm that it ended up knocking down the drive-in screen. I remember being heartbroken because I had heard several things about the drive-in. There were talks of it closing down. But fortunately, with insurance and the help of our community, they were able to buy a new screen.
I don't know for how much longer our drive-in will stay open. But I hope it's open when I have children in the future, because it'd be such a great experience and memory for them to have.
(.... I wonder how many times I typed the word "remember" in this post..)
